We bought our 2019 Airstream brand new in the spring of 2021 (score!) It had been moved from one dealer to another due to an inventory sale and we really benefited from that!
She's 25' long (just over 26' with the propane tanks etc.) and has the front bedroom configuration with a queen bed. There are LOTS of online blogs and forums about which bedroom configuration is 'the best' but we knew the wait times on ordering an AS were huge (thank you pandemic!) so we took what we could get. We thought it was surprising that so many couples preferred the twin bed configuration (I don't think the 'actual' Liz would have accepted that at all!) but after the first several trips, we can see why. Many folks do end up converting their sideways Queen bed in the 25ft models to twins. Why? Well it's definitely not the typical 'crawl over bed' but it's not a roomy 'walk-around' either, so having the aisle in the middle makes it a lot easier.
AS for the 'Front Bed' - our thinking was that if we back Liz into a beautiful spot with amazing views, we'd rather have those during the day and be able to enjoy them from the dining/living area if we're indoors looking out! Of course, we spend a lot of time outside our Airstream, but this just made sense for us! We definitely wouldn't change that!
The Airstream has a surprising amount of storage! The engineering of these things is amazing and they've maximized every inch of space. There are cupboards we barely have anything in! In a future blog, I'll share pictures and ideas on storage solutions.
Any excuse for a trip to Pottery Barn or a funky mid-century-modern shop - sign me up!! This is where you can really give your Airstream a personality. Since ours was named after Hollywood royalty..... let's just say we wanted her to look the 'part' and she does!
Stay tuned for info on stuff we bring and 'must haves' for the outside of the trailer. Our tow vehicle is Richard Burton (natch) and he's a 2021 Toyota Tundra. Liz follows him everywhere.
1. Why are Airstreams so expensive? Simply put, they're built like an airplane and are truly the best in the industry. They're still made by hand in Jackson Center, Ohio, and the pride in workmanship is second to none. Also - most Airstreams ever made are still alive! They hold their value well beyond any competitor and are the only RV that can often go up in value! Bottom line is that they're a great investment (not like an engagement ring for Liz...)
2. What would you change? Probably the bedroom configuration if we are to keep this unit. Otherwise, not much! She's quite beautiful!
3. Do you live full time in 'Liz'? We don't, but many people do and it's the ultimate 'tiny home' on wheels! 25' is probably too small for us to be full-time in (if we don't want a messy Hollywood divorce), but I can see folks who do this in a bigger unit being quite happy with it!
4. Can you work on the road? Absolutely! If there's one thing the pandemic has taught us it's that anything is possible and everything has changed! Remote work is easier than ever (you'll need to sort out the internet connectivity) so why not see the world while earning a living?? Sounds like a solid plan to us!
